"Belvedere's Tower in Central Park, NYC"
36"x 30", oil on canvas, 2001 (*)
One of my favoriote spots in Central Park, not only for it's
sweeping views of the Great Lawn and the city on either side,
but because of the playfulness of the place. Still in service
as a weather station for the Parks Department, the whimsical
nature of the building is delightful itself.

"102 to 105 and Park Avenue"

An "impossible view" looking up Park Avenue in the Barrio
section of Upper Manhattan where the Metro North trains exit
the city for Westchester and Connecticut, gateway to the north

"View of Mid-Town Manhattan from the East River"
42"x 30", oil on canvas, 2001
Shows the United Nations Building, the Con Edison Plant and
the Chrysler Building in the distance. Taken from a number
of views from the East River, including Brooklyn and the Circle
Line, it is a shortened view of midtown manhattan based on
sketches and numerous site visits in Broolkyn. |

"The Bronx Zoo" , 36"x 30"
oil on canvas, 2001 (*)
A type of Landscape painting where an overview of a general
area is depicted using almost map like elements typical of
European Medieval Art such as in the works of Hieronymus Bosch.
Just one way to capture a visit to The Bronx Zoo - in the
foreground is the original 19th Century entrance off Fordham
Road. Mort of these buildings around the seal pool are administrative
and most of the animals are in the distant fields where the
tram and the monorail take the visitor through the simulated
environment.

"View of Mid-Town Manhattan"
42"x 30", oil on canvas, 2001
Based on a series of sketches taken from the roofs of buildings
on 34th and Park and 36th and 1st Avenue, this painting faces
West and depicts a dynamic ten block area from Grand Central
Station to the mid-fifties as far up as the Citicorp Building.
Unlike the other cityscapes in the preceding sections, this
one is monochromatic. There are other paintings of NYC where
I have only worked them in one or two colors. This is done
on purpose to highlight the structural quality of the lines.
Although difficult to see in this reproduction, the line carries
the picture. |
